After a few days of very little in the way of waves, it was nice to arrive and see something. It wasn't great, but there were a few guys out. After a while Matt Banting and Cainy paddled out and made some pretty average waves look good. Looks like there could be a few waves over the weekend. Hope you get some.
There was a nice little pulse of swell yesterday morning. Watonga seemed to he handling it quite well, though I'm sure there would have been great waves all over the place. Unfortunately it had dropped quite a bit by the afternoon and even more by this morning. The conditions are great though, and I'm sure if you have time to explore you will find some quality waves today.
It's no secret that a decent amount of sand has formed at Flagstaff and we are all just waiting for the right swell to provide some great waves. There is nothing happening out there this morning, but yesterday there were a few guys and girls enjoying some big boards on small waves.
The Crescent Head Malibu Classic kicks off today. Hopefully some of the small swell is making it's way into the point. Good luck to all our local entrants.
I've run into these guys in the surf a few times recently.
They are in town for work and come from the Northern Beaches of Sydney. I've seen them riding everything from modern short boards to vintage logs and even bodysurfing. They are good at it all.
They are off to Nias shortly and I'm sure they are going to tear the place apart.
Yesterday morning during my surf check I discovered some clean little waves at Watonga with nobody out. It would have been a fun little surf, but this clear water can't last forever so I swam out solo for a shoot. There is some pretty cool stuff going on below the surface that goes mostly unnoticed.
Today the swell has picked up just a little and there's definitely some waves around. If you do get a surf in be sure to have a look around below the surface.
There were fun waves on offer over the weekend if you knew where to look and had a decent sized board under your feet. The water is still clear and is comfortable in boardies and a jacket. It's definitely my favourite time of your for surfing. It looks like more of the same for the rest of the week. So wax up a big board and get out there for the early.
