Decline

A strong Westerly wind blew through the night, leaving much smaller and cleaner waves this morning.
There seemed to be some good waves and a lot of bodies on the other side of the river.
Town was a little inconsistent, but still had some fun waves and only a handful of surfers out.

Decent

The forecast for this morning was for great waves, with Coastalwatch labelling the prediction Epic.
There were some decent waves around, but I didn't see anything epic.
I'm sure there are great waves around today, just not in town. If you have the day off I think it could be well worth a drive to the points North of Port.

There's definitely swell.

If, like me, you've been complaining about the cold wind while wearing a steamer it might be time to harden up.

Late Shift

It seems I wasn't the only one who struggled to get out of bed this morning.
There were some decent waves at Watonga, but only a few guys out until about 9.00.

Matt Banting arrived for the 9 O'Çlock shift, fresh from a win at the 6 Star event in Mexico. He is so easy to shoot. Even makes the old kook feel like a photographer.

Winter

Winter showed up on the weekend with some cold Westerly winds and a decent Southerly swell.
The conditions were ideal and I'm sure that there were great waves all over the place.
I chose Watonga, as did a lot of surfers. There were plenty out, but the peaks spread from Watonga right past Camels so there were plenty of waves for everyone.

Today's even colder wind has thinned the crowd out, but there are still some great waves on offer at the South facing beaches.

Similar

Today was similar to yesterday. Lighthouse had plenty of swell but wasn't really handling it very well.
Town had fun clean, waves, but the tide was a little low. It's probably quite good by now.

Once again, if you don't have anywhere you have to be there would be some quality waves a short drive or paddle away.

This was the only grom out at 8.30. School holidays have changed since I was a kid.

Everyone

I can't believe it's school holidays. The sun is shining and I just had some really fun waves with only four guys out. Where is everyone?
I checked Watonga on the way into town and there were some decent sized waves and only a few guys out.
When I got to Town Beach there were some fun little waves wrapping into Breakwall.

I'd say that some of the breaks north and south of Port will be firing today.

I'm stoked to have done a little interview with the guys from Smorgasboarder magazine this month. We have a stack of them in store (free) or you can check it out here.
